Hello everyone. So I had to duck away from the server for a couple of days due to some significant career opportunities that I’ve been working towards for the past seven or eight months and during my time away there was a significant shift in player enjoyment and general good attitude towards each other.
I was aware that there was a potential issue with a group calling themselves “The Five” which I had established as a multi-raced faction of renegade Humans and Dwarves. They were given orders to role play out the unique situation in which they had found themselves in, with the understanding that they were to face significant adversity due to their character choices. For those of you who do not know what this precipitated this situation, put simply there were grizzily murders involved.
I won't go further into detail because of conflicting stories and other extraneous detail that simply don't matter here, as I am not looking at the whole story, but the end result of what I have seen.
I should state that this is a direct contravention of the seven basic server rules, but I bent them on the understanding that the players involved had presented themselves and their role play as being mature and in the interest of story, rather than their own personal agendas. Sadly, my initial fears were incorrect and they travelled down a road that did not mesh with my personal objectives.
I want to express how deeply disappointed I am in those players, not only had they convinced me of their obedience, it took them less than twenty four hours to prove themselves too true to their characters. More so, I am disappointed in myself. I am the person ultimately responsible for the situation that played out. If I were more concerned with every player’s individual enjoyment of the server and less about the general advancement of my story line, then I should have simply ruled that their actions, while the result of their character’s role play journey, simply resulted in them role playing out their characters in peace instead of having the role of bandits forced upon them.
I did not and for that I apologise to all players involved and harmed by the knock on effect of how I decided this had to play out.
To that end, I have decided executively that the following will happen.
- All RP and server story that occurred as a result of Adahn’s death, no longer happened. It is wiped from the history books. Adahn is alive and well as are all other characters DIRECTLY AFFECTED as a result. The current characters you play now must be shelved for your next play through or abandoned. You may however petition a moderator if you wish your character to remain dead.
- All players banned, whether it be temporary or permanent as a result of this situation will have their ban lifted, on the ABSOLUTE UNDERSTANDING of the following:
o You may NOT use this opportunity to rekindle arguments with players. There are NO recriminations and NO IC repercussions. A Clean Slate for all.
- A new rule is now in effect. This is a community based factions server. If you play a character, your character's race is your foremost loyalty regardless of IC motivations. You are a community that works together. You may of course bicker and fight inside, even robbing them as a bandit, but at the end of the day, you do NOT put another race, no matter how friendly you are with the characters ahead of your own people. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY A TRAITOR THAT INTENDS TO DESTABILIZE THE REALM, YOU MUST WORK WITH AN ST’S PERMISSION AND OVERSIGHT.
- There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in effect for multi-race settlements. If you do it, you will be warned once, then banned. Don’t do it.
I know this is going to cause a lot of problems, people are certainly not going to be happy, but understand that this is my INDIVIDUAL DECISION as administrator. There is a reason for this decision and it is so that all disagreements can be dropped in favor of my ruling. This server is about fun, not about revenge for perceived slights. Not about proper role playing. Not about behaving well and in the spirit of their character. All people involved can consider themselves on a warning because frankly, I am incredibly disappointed in all of you for role playing so well.
It is time to stop acting like spoilt, selfish children and time to start thinking about everyone's fun, not just your own.
Kind Regards,
