Recently the elves came to us with a fair trade and some gifts. They offered us a trade route. I specifically mentioned that the Silk Touch enchantment would be profitable to both of us. If we establish this trade route, I think we can gift them some diamonds in exchange for a Diamond Silk Touch (III hopefully) which would be very profitable. They also mentioned how humans are denying Dwarf tradesmen, I don't know about that though.

My character, Parnel Silverhammer is for it.

Also I am not sure how this would really work technically. Is it an Overseer thing, or just a Fort consensus thing? What do you guys think?

I think there needs to be general consensus on whether or not we trade with the Elves, but otherwise handled on an individual basis within the larger mandate. In short- if the Overseer says 'yes', conduct business with them how you wish. If the fort decides against it, then hope you don't get caught trading with the knife-ears.

My character, Torme, would only wish to trade with the elves if an isolated trade depot were first constructed. He does not like the idea of any outsiders being in the hallowed halls of a dwarf fortress.
